This Cemetery has Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) graves within it.

There are 495 identified casualties buried in this cemetery from WW1 and WW2.

The Cemetery was laid out in 1862 when land was purchased from the General Cemetery next door. It was later extended westwards across the road in 1890. It covers a large area.

Many of the memorials in this cemetery are laid down due to safety concerns and to ensure the cemetery is safe for all visitors. Dogs are allowed, as they are in all the cemeteries, however, dogs must be kept on a lead and under control at all times.

The lodge on site is not owned by Bereavement Services and the occupants should not be disturbed.

Access

The Cemetery is split in half by Chanterlands Avenue (there is an East Side and West Lodge side) access gates are on both sides of the road close to the junction with Spring Bank. Access by car is via wrought iron gates located directly fronting Chanterlands Avenue on both sides of the road, opposite each other. There is pedestrian and vehicular access on both sides.

Further pedestrian access gates are located on Spring Bank near to the train level crossing and a further gate which is located between General Cemetery and Western Cemetery east (none lodge side).

General Cemetery is on Spring Bank and is not to be mistaken or confused for Western Cemetery. Roads within the cemetery will take you by car to general areas only, walking may be required. Roadside parking only is available (no designated car parking spaces).

Some roadways and pathways are uneven. Drive slowly and be careful at all times.
